Creative Hardwood Inlays by Carrie Medlin

Inlays and marquetry were inspired by the ancient craft of intarsia ("to insert"), the making of pictures or mosaics by the inlaying of exotic woods or other materials to make a solid piece.  As far back as ancient Egypt, inlays were highly valued and used on furnature, chests and even tombs.  Modern technology has advanced to the point where we can program computers to use lazors to sear through the wood for us and make patterns.  These 'cookie cutter' inlays are widely available.  The method of hand crafted inlays may be a dying art.  I wish to keep this fine craft alive with hand cut, custom designed inlays like no other.

These inlays are made from high quality exotic hardwoods, ordered from around the world then handpicked and cut by me.  None of these pieces are stained.  The natural colors and textures of the wood is what makes each inlay special and unique.  These inlays can be sanded multiple times and will last as long as a hardwood floor.  Most are 3/4" thick, but can be made to any thickness required.
